Andrey Rublev is the Second Ranked Russian (behind Medvedev) tennis player who is currently the world number 8 ranked player in the world. The 23-year old started the year strongly winning back to back titles at the Qatar Open and Adelaide International, the first two Tour 250 level tournaments of the year.

The outbreak of coronavirus pandemic was responsible for the cancellation of numerous tournaments and the season was truncated; Wimbledon and Tokyo Olympics were the two high-profile events to be disturbed with the former canceled for the ongoing year and the latter is suspended till 2023.

The tour resumed in August so does Rublev. In September, he won his first Tour 500 level title at the Hamburg European Open beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. Continued his red-hot form, the Russian went on to win two more Tour 500 level titles. St. Petersburg Open beating Borna Coric in the final and Vienna Open beating Lorenzo Sonego in the final.

Winning back to back ATP titles at the Qatar Open and Adelaide International, Rublev entered the first Grand Slam of the year, Australian Open with high expectations. Having the best result of 3rd round in Melbourne and a 1st round exit in 2019, this time he went on with his best result, a 4th round exit and beating David Goffin in the 3rd round.

The second Grand Slam of the year French Open US Open took place without spectators. Now 10th seed, Rublev had the best result at the Grand Slams. Reaching the quarterfinals of at a Major for the first time and beating Matteo Berrettini on the way.
